I'm settling back into my life as I know it at home, after having spent the past 2 weeks preparing for the Spring 2010 Furniture Market!
For a few weeks out of the year, the market rolls in on this otherwise quiet town turning it into a bustling metropolis! Meanwhile, we scurry to get all the showrooms up and running by opening day!
My mother - interior designer and owner of Lorraine's Design Company, Inc. - is a driving force and has been at this for over 30 years now!
She starts her work for the market months before the actual show - bidding on jobs and locking in showrooms, organizing renovations, selecting fabrics and buying accessories as well as drafting the layouts of specified furniture.
Speaking of drafting... I'm not talking CAD here folks. She still does this by hand! A skill I discovered to be even more difficult than imagined!
Then she'll call on her associate designers to help her pull it all together and well... quite honestly - keep it together!
We place art, hang pictures, accessorize, run around town gathering all the necessities, and this year - master the oh so painful art of steaming bedding ensembles!
Needless to say, we got it done!
9 showrooms - burns, bumps and bruises remain as proof!
Here's a link to one of the showroom renovations we took on this market! Great people! Great Showroom! If you're at the market swing by - 4th floor, Showplace!
ReplyDeleteThe space was gutted and up-fitted for the Steve Silver Company - all design work by Lorraine's Design Company, Inc.
